Planning comes before the foundation
The first step is to determine the distance between the planned posts, which depends on the length of the individual fence elements. Once you've measured everything correctly, dig holes into which the posts will later be inserted.

Do fence posts have to be set in concrete?
If you have purchased separate metal posts for your fence and your fence elements are not to be screwed to existing masonry or posts, they must be set in concrete. This is the only way to ensure your fence has the necessary, reliable support. It is important that the soil is stable and well compacted.
How deep do the posts need to be concreted?
The depth of the foundation for your posts depends on the length of the fence posts. Follow the rule of thumb: ¼ of the post length. This determines the depth of the holes into which you will ultimately concrete the fence posts.
What type of concrete should you use for fence posts?
When choosing concrete, we recommend using a quick-set concrete with trass – trass is a volcanic rock that is 50% silica. Quick-set concrete offers the advantage of not requiring any mixing and sets quickly.
How do I form the foundation?
To form the foundation – which holds the concrete in shape – you can use formwork boards, which you can find at hardware stores. Other sturdy wooden boards are also suitable. You then firmly insert the boards into the ground. It is important that there are no gaps through which the concrete could seep out. Use sand and small pebbles to seal any gaps.
How do I install the posts?
Insert the fence posts into the holes in the ground. Then pour the quick-set concrete into the hole and add water. The exact mixing ratio can be found on the packaging. Now you have to wait until the concrete hardens – fortunately, this doesn't take long with quick-set concrete, but wait 24 hours to be on the safe side.
How do I attach the fence panels?
Once the posts are firmly embedded in the concrete and the concrete has hardened, you can connect the fence panels to the posts. If you have chosen our metal posts, holes must be cut into the steel posts. Screws are then screwed into these to connect the fence panels to the posts.
What kind of screws do I need to connect the posts and fence?
To attach the fence panels to the steel posts, you will need slotted screws. If you ordered the posts from ELEO Express, you can also find the matching screws in our shop. The screw thread diameter is 8 mm.
Of course, you can also purchase the matching screws from your local hardware store. Choose galvanized slotted screws. These are more durable and protected against corrosion.
The final step is to connect the fence elements to the posts. Done: Your new fence is in place.
In addition to encasing the posts in concrete, you can also attach the fence to screw-on posts. If you're still looking for the right screw-on posts, you can also find them at ELEO Express.
